A Misdirected Passion

…In a wholly senseless dream

Death of the body is nothing
Death of the mind is all
Death of the deathly mind
That seeks to know itself in form

Death of the heartless body
That suffers, falls and dies
Is nothing to deciding to
Awake from deathly lies

My mind is dead already
All I see is war
Conflicting tongues pull out their guns
Travail: the body’s law

Attacked, I am attacking
Or this I wouldn’t see
Beneath my mask of smiles
The darkness hides my murdering

My mind it is the murderer
My eyes perceive the form
Of ancient grievances
That propagate what’s earthly born

Destruction is the engine
This entrenched, deluded mind
Is desperate to presume control
Of what it cannot find

So death is my salvation
Whichever way I die
Death of the body serves the mind
That wants to stay in time

But what I choose to kill
Marks out the different paths I’m shown
A murderer I’ll be
Whichever way I choose to go

And death will feel the same
Whichever way around I die
The difference only
Death once or another thousand times

And so I make my choice
Within the dreaming of the world
I choose to die to death
And all its extraneous forms

I choose to see the minds
That are at war within my own
As one conglomeration
One single form, my home

And as I enter into
Each and every one I see
As I receive them, cellularly
Energetically

They penetrate my being
With their anger and their fear
Every attack I’m humbled to
Receive and hold so dear

As they become the one
That stood here, separate and alone
The death of all their dying
That I’d savoured in my tomb…

Becomes our sacred joining
As the two become the same
The million-bodied one
Is sanctified within my heart again

And as the phoenix rises
From the mighty mountain side
Her wings translucent fire
And her scream a wakening cry

The souls that cried within my own
Released to freedom’s shore
Their own decision reigns
But this true gift remains for all

That there is nothing left
Of space and time and putrid form
That into the immensity
Of holy life we’re born

We stand upon the parapet
Infinite space below
We sense the rushing of the wind
Into the void we flow

And, falling, we can understand
The body’s ever been
A misdirected passion
In a wholly senseless dream

Alive Within Your Heart

An experience I received and that I cherish deeply — and pray to keep alive and powerful within my mind

Let me be created by you
On this day and every day
Let my heart be opened
By the voice that paves the way

In this blessed instant
To the love I’ve always craved
Opening, awakening to
Your beauty and your grace

No more do I depend
On those who walk in form
Now I am complete
Within the heart that’s ever warm

Ever rich in comfort
Ever offering me its own
Light that flows in rivers strong
That feeds the seeds it’s sown

Now I know your nourishment
Your warmth and gentle grace
Ever strong within me
All my darkness to replace

Now I know the strength of those
Who walk within your love
Never more will care be worn
While this mind’s thinking of…

Pondering and resting on,
Receiving what you are
I’ll never be alone
Now you’re alive within my heart

The Only Thing That Can Be Loved

Are you ready…?

Photo by Hamish Weir on Unsplash — thank you

The only thing that can be loved
That which is wholly real
The only thing that can’t be judged
It lives beyond impatient zeal…

To manifest a life of ease
Within the nothingness of form
It lives upon the grace
That is, beyond this world, the norm

It’s only to be known and seen
And felt, received, and helped to grow
Within the self that judges not
The seeds that it has sown

The only thing that can be loved
Is love itself, you are
Within this holy instant
The perfection of the heart

Within this breathless sanctitude
You are the life that leads
Gently, through the gathering dusk,
To all the soul could need

The light that shines upon me
From your dedicated mind
As you offer yourself
To that which swims in the divine

You offer all you are
To all the beauty you’ve been shown
As hearts that open wide
Become the One upon the throne

True majesty bequeaths its favour
Everywhere it goes
It knows not who or what it sees
But loves as it’s been shown

The love that’s been allowed is given,
Nothing else is seen
A torrent of such blessings
Reigns and rains and is received

Everywhere, in everything,
These blessings sprout and grow
The merging of the self
Becomes the torrent of the flow

The light that pours incessantly
From your devoted soul
That climbs in climax
Roars in ruth, explodes the paths of old

It tumbles over rocks and sandy bottoms
Gurgling on
The course that you have taken
Now delivers you in song

To tempests raging wild
Upon the waves that crash the shore
But for a moment all is still
As you are shown the door

The chasm, joyful opening
The bird pecked estuary
That, calm, awaits the moment
Of your joining with the sea

And as the moon awakens
As she rises and then shines
Reflecting beauty of the Father Sun
Within her mind

The waters rise within you
But you are no longer scared
You stand with arms wide open
With your mind alive in prayer

You whisper deep within the soul
Of what you’ve always been
“I’m ready to be taken out
Forever from this dream”

Your Perfect Holiness

A lesson in wholeness and gratitude from A Course in Miracles

A blazing light breaking in a dark sky.

The grasses they are speaking
The holy world is wide
Communicating with you
Your own dear breadth of mind

The universe is watching
And loving all you do
The spirit’s soul, perfection, whole
Is loving only you

Every breath you follow
To your sacred unity
Extends from deep within you
And blesses all you see

In every footstep you’re renewed
Releasing all to Him
Who’s heart, its rhythmic beating song
Gathers you deep within

“All things that live bring gifts to you, and offer them in gratitude and gladness at your feet. The scent of flowers is their gift to you. The waves bow down before you, and the trees extend their arms to shield you from the heat, and lay their leaves before you on the ground that you may walk in softness, while the wind sinks to a whisper round your holy head.”

A Course in Miracles, Workbook Lesson 156 — I Walk with God in Perfect Holiness

“Your plan I follow here, and at the end I know that You will gather Your effects into the tranquil Heaven of Your Love, where earth will vanish, and all separate thoughts unite in glory as the Son of God.”

The Silent Heartbeat

A walk in the wild woods reminds me of home

Sunshine pouring through the dense trees of an ancient forest

There is a spirit within all things
That speaks to the mind open and alive
Listen for the silent heartbeat of the wildest, truest friend
There is a wisdom that connects beyond all form
Expressing universality, oneness, clarity
Expanding, dismissing what was previously reason
Tittle tattle dropped to forest floor, trodden under sole and passed away
Ease of living, unquestionable, obvious
Decisions shown through lightness, darkness, doors open or closed
Seen clearly in the hallways of the mind
Clarity cuts through impossibility
Gives me to its presence, gratefully encompassing the whole

I am grateful, my deepest love, that I have now heard your call
Spoken through all things natural and alive
I am here now, I am open, I receive you
Let your loving wisdom be the rhythm of my day and night
Bringing me, each instant, to the perfect timelessness of now
Your sanctity and peace become the only pathway that my mind remembers
The natural world: no more or less of matter to its form
But simply less obstruction to the truth that lies beyond
No complicated mind imposed to stand between itself
And the intrinsic perfection of its present reality
You who know your perfect wholeness,
Teach me how to know myself as you

Stop looking with your eyes
Start feeling through your heart
And life will arise in your sight
Stop thinking with your mind
Start feeling with your heart
And pain will dissolve in your light

Do you realise you’re the one who lifts sadness from them all?
Do you understand it is done, we’re just watching darkness fall?
Can you leave behind what is gone, and open to what is shown?
‘Cause if you can, if you can, and if you will, then you’re ready for it all

Stop listening with your ears
Start breathing through your heart
And the mists of time will divide
Stop listening to your thoughts
Sink down into your heart
And the breath of life will decide

Do you realise you’re the one who gives credence to it all?
As you release your mind, the whole thing will fall
Can you look beyond to what’s true, and open to what is now?
’Cause if you can, if you can, and if you will, then you’re ready for it all

Yours Alone

A secret whispered gently within

A girl looking up at the full moon with a huge blossom tree on her right hand side, she’s kind of levitating! There’s a lake and mountains beyond her.

The mists of this body fade into the beauty of your timeless heart
My gratitude becomes me as I remember, once again,
The infinite simplicity of your peace
Troubled not by angry misinterpretations
Calculations, connivances
Decisions for disease
Impenetrable beauty relaxes the cells that work in unrelenting earnest
And releases a past with which I invent my ideology of future pain

Cast aside precipitous conjurings and remember the words with which your life is crowned eternal
Spoken softly, deep within the certainty and grace of your own gently beating heart

You can hear these words
They are yours alone
They come from somewhere you can just remember
And can only reach if all desire for worldly weights is gone

Take Me Home

Clarity will come

If I got to hold you, feel your energy
Wrapping me in comfort, the wholesome mystery
Of your mind, of your arms, and of your gentle peace
With the grateful knowledge of your light shining eternally

If I got to hold you in perfect symmetry
Waking to the light of morning shining through my dream
Covering me in kisses as your fingertips caress
Every hill and valley of the landscape we cannot possess

If I got to hold you in the glorious simplicity
Of the recognition that the heart will ever be
Wild in disestablishment, contrary to the binds
Of a marriage blessed by hope, laid vulnerable by time

To all the ingenuity the separate mind can manifest
The certainty of troubles cast within a scene of jest
I recognise that deep within desires that machinate my core
Is the increasing clarity that all I want is more

To feel your gaze upon my writhing, rising certainty
That only far beyond the forms perception seems to see
Is cast the beauty that we choose to recognise and know
As from these forms of humanness we can afford to grow

Nothing will be lost as we traverse evolving realms
Nothing’s here to lose, everything’s part of you as well
The revolution of the mind, its glorious mysteries
Will show you, through direct experience, you are all you need

And the sacrifice that seems to occupy my seeking mind
The disbelief that Godliness will satisfy and never bind
Is quietly, in an instant re-translated to accord
With choosing to become the life that’s opening in my sacred core

So if I got to hold you, as I wholly want to do
Feel your breath upon my neck, your hands exactly where I want you
Such delicious fantasies that weave the dream-spell’s tapestry
Would be alive an instant in my mind within a dream

So all I’ll do, as I don’t know the route that should be known
Is hand all my desires to the one who always shows
The brightest way, the road that takes us back as fast and sure
To peace within the heaven of the love that is his law

I trust in you to guide me and to make all passions true
To take this needing, roaring heart, and turn it back to you
To leave behind the winding paths the troubled mind still wants to know
To wake me from the substitutes I’ve made, to take me home

It’s Your Heart

A lesson received and gratefully understood

Abstract swirls of creative flow around a magical light-filled pool of water

Can you start to understand, it’s because it’s you?
It’s because it’s your heart that the notes flow through
It’s your peace, your energy, consciously aligned
With the flow of beauty that is present in your mind

Can you start to understand, it’s because it’s you?
It’s because of all you are and all you cease to do
As your heart is moved to spell the voicings and the words
Clarity becomes them as they spill out and are heard…

Deep within the mysteries that consecrate the soul
Waking in the centre of the one accepted role
Peaceful, unbound, soaring, out beyond the stars
Every moment you receive the music in your heart

It’s because you listen as the notes come through
Holding them within your heart, alive within the truth
Every note is sacred, it’s an energy
Wrapped within the instant it arrives here from eternity

Every note is herald of the gleeful tide
Rising from the trickles that between your pebbles sigh
Rising to a culmination, raging at their core
Wildest inhibition casting, homeless, to the score…

All the notes you couldn’t seem to understand or see
As the joy of quietude comes rushing through your dream
As you let the well of life come rising, bubbling through
The sudden understanding that it’s because it’s you

All I’ve Ever Been

A love poem to water

Pink blossom trees overhanging a beautiful still lake, a gently sloping bank just asking you to sit for while then dive in!

I let myself be water
As I finally choose to see
That deep within the mysteries
Of life, I’m always free

I let myself be water
As my tendencies to hide
Are loosening as the swell of beauty
Rises through my peace of mind

I struggled with my water
Because I refused to see
That deep within the mysteries of the soul
I’m running free

Coursing through the fields of battle
Ever flowing rhyme,
Past such scenes of devastation
Guardians of time

I’d forgotten I was water
As I tried to be
Something that was static
Cast in stone amid the stream

In the dream of sanctuary
I’ve finally deigned to tell
Stories of the gratitude
That lift my heart to swell

With the water’s majesty
And with her sacred flow,
As I return to that which courses
Humble through the gloam

In gratitude I rise
Amid the water’s folky rhyme,
Its purity immerses my
Intention to divine

The fear that I had lived within,
Believed myself to be,
It’s thus released and handed to
The flow of perfect peace

The mysteries that engulfed my mind
And left me crooked, bowed,
Are now revealed in candour
As my heart finds its way home

The spaciousness, a watery grave
That’s separation’s tomb
Is waiting with her open arms
I flow into her womb

As I become the ocean
With such startling clarity
I recognise within myself
It’s all I’ve ever been
