The Snake

POETRY

A poem seen and felt in my heart

I feel him rising at my heart
The temptress tamed and wrest apart
From all his wicked winding ways
So straight the path he climbs and stays
Upon, as through my heart he glides
His body’s movement nimble, lithe,
He casts a stone upon the shore
Of welcome at my beating door

And then, as sudden as the tide
He rises to my throat and chides
The darkness that was trying to hide there
Now releasing, open wide
He lingers, filling all I feel
With tender energy and zeal
He lingers, gliding quelled a while
And lifts his heart within my smile

Sated, now his sliding trills
Into a movement upwards still
As up to my third eye he climbs
With gliding body, perfect mind
Into grace with every sweeping
Movement, now my faith to keep

As he rises to my fore
His lust presents to patent core
A memory succinct, agree-
-able to every worldly taste
But ridiculed by all who see
The freedom that surpasses thee
Thou tempting, crazed, deluded one
That eats from earth, rises by sun

I now am free to finally choose
The light of truth that in me glows
The peace of truth that rests in me
The eyes of truth that in me see
The grace of perfect, loving care
That rests within and finds me there
The gentle, lilting vocal tones
That rouse me here and take me home
