A Misdirected Passion

…In a wholly senseless dream

Death of the body is nothing
Death of the mind is all
Death of the deathly mind
That seeks to know itself in form

Death of the heartless body
That suffers, falls and dies
Is nothing to deciding to
Awake from deathly lies

My mind is dead already
All I see is war
Conflicting tongues pull out their guns
Travail: the body’s law

Attacked, I am attacking
Or this I wouldn’t see
Beneath my mask of smiles
The darkness hides my murdering

My mind it is the murderer
My eyes perceive the form
Of ancient grievances
That propagate what’s earthly born

Destruction is the engine
This entrenched, deluded mind
Is desperate to presume control
Of what it cannot find

So death is my salvation
Whichever way I die
Death of the body serves the mind
That wants to stay in time

But what I choose to kill
Marks out the different paths I’m shown
A murderer I’ll be
Whichever way I choose to go

And death will feel the same
Whichever way around I die
The difference only
Death once or another thousand times

And so I make my choice
Within the dreaming of the world
I choose to die to death
And all its extraneous forms

I choose to see the minds
That are at war within my own
As one conglomeration
One single form, my home

And as I enter into
Each and every one I see
As I receive them, cellularly
Energetically

They penetrate my being
With their anger and their fear
Every attack I’m humbled to
Receive and hold so dear

As they become the one
That stood here, separate and alone
The death of all their dying
That I’d savoured in my tomb…

Becomes our sacred joining
As the two become the same
The million-bodied one
Is sanctified within my heart again

And as the phoenix rises
From the mighty mountain side
Her wings translucent fire
And her scream a wakening cry

The souls that cried within my own
Released to freedom’s shore
Their own decision reigns
But this true gift remains for all

That there is nothing left
Of space and time and putrid form
That into the immensity
Of holy life we’re born

We stand upon the parapet
Infinite space below
We sense the rushing of the wind
Into the void we flow

And, falling, we can understand
The body’s ever been
A misdirected passion
In a wholly senseless dream

Everything

The everything that you are

Everything wants to be with you
Everything wants to know
The limitless scope of your peaceful hope
The certainty deep in your soul

Everyone wants to be with you
The everyone that you are
Everyone joins with the precious coins
That flow from deep in your heart

Everyone wants to love you
To discover the love that they give
As their deathly hearts convulse with a start
Roused as they come to live

Everyone wants to know you
’Cause knowing is all you’ve been
Since the day you were born as truth beyond form
And deathly limbs became green

Everyone wants to help you
As helping you we become one
We demonstrate how the love we are now
Is the catalyst, all is undone

Everyone wants to be with you
The fruit that your branches bear
Is heavenly food for the seeds that you threw
Onto ground that was fertile but bare

And now as we join in the sunshine
Of heavenly treasures so true
Our gratitude swells as we open the wells
That will nourish us as we push through

And trees that bear their own rich fruit
Are humbled as they grow
Your orchard of love is the outpouring of
Your truth — the truth we now sow

Beginning to believe

When you say I paved the way
For all that’s happening now
The breath that courses into me
And beats upon my brow
Mistakes me for the one who recognizes
All the gifts they’ve sown
In heaven’s secret places,
In my precious heart of stone

The seeds that fell upon the rubble
Or the misty shoal
Admit the past and seek to feed
Its creases and its wolds
But those that fell within the heart
That looked so cold and bare
Went troubling its cracks
And took their humble roots in there

The stone cold circle rumbled
As the roots were gathering brawn
And suddenly a piercing cracking
Ripped apart the dawn
A river flowed where none had known
It’s raging path before
And I arose, a chalice held aloft
With glowing core

The gifts that had been given
Ever deigning to receive
The fruits of many labours
That had seemed to crush and wreathe
That finally built a circle
That could be seen and believed
That mystified but never sought
To chasten or recede

If you say I paved the way
Your blessings I can feel
If you acknowledge
What I have denied, I know it’s real
If you believe that I have given
More than I could see
Then I’ll believe you, as I begin to
Believe in me

The Portal Is Open

The mind is free

If I’d been willing to open my heart
To recognise all that was crumbling and dark
To welcome the demons that wrested the swell
From the power that rose up to vaporise hell

If I’d been willing to set my heart free
From the hopeless becomings that conjured a dream
If my light had been shining, my will had been true
I would have made this so easy for you

If I’d been faithful and followed your word
If I’d marched to the beat of the drum that you heard
If I’d been firm through resistance and mire
To dismiss the beliefs that bedeviled the pyre

Of the corpses that past culminations had sown
Into patterns unchanging and restless, ungrown
That were clearing so beautifully, turned by the flames of forgiveness
To smoke signals, peaceful and sane

I’m troubled in turns by the reams of regret
The temptation to focus on failure, to let myself
Fall from the grace of the sweet moment’s gift
To resist the becoming, the swelling, the lift

If I’d only been present, I’d only been whole
If I’d only discovered the grit of my soul
If I’d only been willing to set them all free
Then my mind would have been in divine industry

But the power to be and the power to give
Are recognised only the instant that is
Are understood solely and only right now
Are redundant in pasts that are gone as we plough

Through the depths of the karma, revealed and released
Till a space, wide and precious, fertility’s feast
Lies there before us, fresh seeds can be sown
In the mind that has sent all its past troubles home

So “If only I’d been in the present with you”
Is denial right now of the powerful truth
That we’ll always be joined in our heavenly task
Of becoming the present, releasing the past

We’ve always been here, the unmasking of time to eternity
Happens each moment, divine,
That I welcome the beauty of wholeness and see
That the portal is open, the mind it is free

The Spirit’s Sight

Bearing witness to the light beyond the dream

I know how to do it
It’s the simplest thing I’ve learned
To set you free from your misery
To witness you rise and turn

I know how to do it
It’s the simplest thing I know
To watch you free, in the heart of peace
Your roots reaching down as you grow

I know how to find you
In your happiest place of cheer
Alive with hope, descending the stopes
Of a lifetime forgiven and dear

I know how to meet you
Happy, alive and free
Released from the past, the heavens at last
Joyfully opening

I know how to free you
And how to see you now
It’s the simplest thing I could ever bring
To the moment I fully allow

I know how to witness
Your perfect liberty
I can see in my mind, pure present and kind
Your gentle majesty

I know how to be present
With the truth that lives in you
I see through the veil, torn, rented, assailed
To the light that’s shining through

I know how to love you
Wholly, impeccably
It’s the only way I can love what I made
If I see it as part of me

I know how to love you
The only way is to see
The shining light that clarifies sight
Beyond the dark body

The only way to know you
The only way to find
The love that you are in my deepest of hearts
Is to see you in light in my mind

I know how to do it
I know how to be free
I’ve witnessed the truth of His gentle ruth
In the light I know as me

I know how to do it
In happiness I’m home
I witness your light in His perfect sight
And totality is my throne

I Entered In

The gifts that greet the grateful soul

Pink centred sun, womb, fire, abstract beauty

I entered in the womb of God
It was your body, opened wide
From base to crown an opening of light
Arose before my eyes

It beckoned me to enter in
And taste the pleasures of the soul
And feel the glorious pressure
Of the mind becoming whole

I entered in the womb of God
And at your heart that opened wide
A blessing to consume me
As I stripped to bare and dived

A flow, innate, of gratitude
Did humble me wherein I knew
The love of God surrounding me:
Synonymous with you

The walls were lush and turgid
As between them I did glide
Ever moving inward to the
Sacred space inside

A space where I am nourished
To the essence of my core
A comfort of such density
Aliveness, gentle warmth

The walls they hold me centred
Their pressure meets my need
For comfort and security
My everlasting greed

Insatiable desire
To be held, to feel at home
To lie and rest in certainty
That I am not alone

I feel the grateful rhythms
Of a heart that’s guiding true
Every mind that comes to him
For comfort and for ruth

I rest within a body
That body is your mind
I have a cord that feeds me
Without forage or find

I rest within your gentleness
Your peace is all I know
I rest within your certainty
Within your peace I grow

I enter in your kingdom
To rest a while from form
Till I’m released from density
Then from this place I’m born

Dear John

Lyrics and video for one of my songs

Dear John
By which I mean the planet I’ve been living on
For so long
Dear John

Dear John
By which I mean the fear that has been so strong
In my mind
So long

Dear John
By which I mean the planet I’ve been living on
For so long
So long

Dear John
By which I mean the body I’ve been speaking from
The idea in my mind that kept my fear strong
So strong
So long

Dear John
By which I mean the planet I’ve been living on
The beings I’ve shared ideas of identity through physicality
With for so long
So long

If you look at me quantumly you’ll see I’m gone
Was never here
I’m gone

The love we’ve shared in truth is all that’s still strong
Ideas of physicality are long gone
Long gone
Dear John

And I’ve come here to share a new idea so strong in me
It’s so strong
To tell you if you’re fearful or you’re lonely
That it won’t be long

I’ve come to share my certainty that truth is all that’s left of me
That I was wrong
I’ve come to share my certainty that we were only ever free
To love and loose the bounds of time
From all that we had thought we’d seen
Dear John, dear John

And now we dance forever to the songs we wrote together in eternity
We’re free, dear John
Dear John, we’re free
Dear John

Dear John
If you look through the eyes that can see quantumly
You’ll see, we’re gone
With love, Dear John

Always

In gratitude for those who’ve walked this way before

A path between grassy verges, trees and mountains

There’ll always be poems for you
The one who has held me, encouraged me through
A myriad distractions, a myriad of days
On paths that felt stony although they were paved
With the certainty of those who’d walked them before
And left in each footstep a beautiful star

There’ll always be poems for you
The one who has stood still and shone your light through
The darkest of terrors, the stormiest nights
Your beam ever present and clear in its sight

There’ll always be poems, there’ll always be stars
For those who have loved me while I fell apart
And cradled my soul as I crashed to the floor
And welcomed me, whole, as I rose, as I soared

There’ll always be poems of love in my heart
For the brothers that know me beyond where I start
For those who are centred, their clarity breathes
The verdure of life in my heavenly leas

A corner’s been turned in the misty air’d fall
I believe I feel life, I believe I see dawn
Up ahead breaking into the heart that has learned
Finally to give away all it earns

There’ll always be poems for you
In beauty and power and infinite truth
They well up inside me and break their way through
All troubles are quenched as their river runs true

Yours are the hearts that have shown me the way
Intrinsically fearless as love takes its place
In the mind that was hoping but couldn’t be sure
Now your light is my clarity, happiness, law

There’ll always be poems and deep gratitude
For the ones who have voyaged before me to truth
Who’ve conquered their demons and wrested their scars
From the jaws of the tempters and lifted their hearts

To the ones who’ll devour them until you stand
Vulnerable. Beating, it rests in your hand
Peaceable, strong, in the knowledge so clear
That the only thing left to attack you is fear

They’ve stood at the altar and laid themselves down
And discovered the sword was dismissed with the crown
They’ve torn down their statues again and again
Stepped into the fire of the purging of men

There’ll always be poems, there’ll always be songs
For the ones who’ve discovered as they marched along
In the discipline of their surrendering minds
The peace that surpasses the self they’ve declined

There’ll always be poems for all that you are
As evolved revolutions of wakening hearts
Are roused at their centre, welcomed and hugged
The poems that flow through for you are my love

“And left in each footstep a beautiful star” — This is an idea taken from the Course.

His step is light, and as he lifts his foot to stride ahead a star is left behind, to point the way to those who follow him.

A Course in Miracles, Lesson 134

The Piano

The notes that fall within the fertile soul

Abstract image with water, sky (above and below the water), a mountain, and something resembling a broken down piano
Author image, thanks to NightCafe AI Art Generator — Prompt by Hoagie

I am the piano, your fingers work the keys
And every breath of life that I’ve resisted is released
I am the piano, your fingers write the chords
I’m here beneath your fingertips, they intonate the words
Words like water, lilting phrases, stimulating tenderly
Rivers that exist within and far beyond the body that you see
As I am lying open hearted here before
The grace that feels the majesty of music at its core

Music is the water, emotion is the song
Translated to energy as we move beyond
Form and time and space and things that troubled beauty held
And restitute eternity with every blessed swell
As the zephyr rises and the crest is peaked to fall
Rolling as it rose, a building magnitude, a wall
Power built on power in its ever gliding roar
Soaring us to certainties we’ve never felt before

I’m delighted by the prospect, joyful rich simplicity
Unabashed by troubles cast within the world of empty dreams
To enjoy the consequence of driving forth the winding snares
That beheld uncertainty, the fear of loss, infinite cares
Woe betide the one who seeks to hold what cannot be
But the merest wisp of heaven cast within a dream
Let us rise beyond the dearth of this beguiling coup
Subjugating, pacifying, stifled and subdued

Contrast with the beneficent hope of certainty
Deep within the heart in this impeccable release
Rich in beauty, seamless joy, home to perfect mind
Infinitely pure and gentle, always soft and kind
Rising with the climax of the swelling melody
Bodies used as vessels of communication, peace
Intricate in glory, manifested through the words
Spoken by the keys as their caresses are expressed, adjourned

My heart holds the strings that feel the hammer’s mighty blow
Raining tones of complex beauty fall within the flow
Wrested deathly from the minor depths, released to soar
Out into a universe it’s never known before
I become the notes as you express your clarity
That the grace you play from knows the truth that we are free
Freedom is the tide that carries every one back home
As the notes that fall within the fertile soul are sown

Blossoming

A heart opening in gratitude and overflowing with love

Image created by author with NightCafe AI Art Generator

Softening your heart to me
As I begin within your sight
To blossom as the beauty
Of a prayer taking flight

And as the petals open
There is nothing left to hide
My nectar is unfathomably
Bare to your delight

You taste it at my heart
And you are nourished to your soul
The fountain of my holy water
Always is your home

And you can rest your hand
Upon the wall that holds the flow
And let your fingers dabble
In the soft and rosy glow

I offer you to gorge upon
The fountain at my core
To dip your head within her:
Soft, embracing, wholly warm

You lift your head to breathe
Having been sanctified and blessed
As you rest a while upon
The sacred pillow of my breast

I offer you to come to me
And rest a while inside
The holy law simplicity
Would never choose to hide

The sanctifying ardour
Of the heart that flower be
Eradicating meaningless desire
From its dream

And as we sit together
With our hearts abreast, in time
The memory of peace
Is clarified and realigned

I feel you moving into me
Our bodies are combined
The tissues that ensconced us
Giving way to the divine

I rest upon your shoulder
All my hesitance forsake
As I recognise eternity
In every breath we take

I have found my refuge
In the blossoming heart that yields
A reservoir of treasures
Flowing from the love that heals
